January 7, 2025 was the start of something that moved LA’s residents and others. If you don’t know about the wildfires that only began that day and continued for what felt like weeks then I’d say crawl back under your rock.
After documenting the fires in close capacity I then retreated to safer areas as things began to get worse. Cars fleeing from homes and the faces of families completely wiped of certainty, I just knew we all felt the weight of the unknown, I was wrong.
The Santa Monica Pier was the next closest destination to me and the sight of onlookers captivated by the tremendous amount of smoke was expected, but then there was this odd formation of existence around a man singing and a Vegas couple dancing as if this was some weird dream. A literal crowd was formed around these tourist just to be apart of their moment, which seemed more important than reality itself.
What if we all came together as the crowd did when things got tough for our neighbors? Instead of having FOMO for a “happy” moment maybe we should fear the day hands to reach for in our time of need will soon no longer be there.
